What you’d be responsible for:

 

The Associate Director, US Taxation, is accountable for the performance of EPCOR’s US taxation function. This includes ensuring accurate and timely preparation of the Company’s US income and other tax returns, US tax provision items for financial reporting purposes, US tax-related responsibilities for business development activities and development/implementation of appropriate tax planning strategies. 

 

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of tax professional responsible for the organization’s U.S. taxation function and strategy, foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service while ensuring the team had the capabilities and resources required to achieve business objective.
  • Ensure compliance with new and existing US tax laws and regulations; ensure timely and accurate recording of all taxrelated liabilities and expenses. Ensure the timely, accurate preparation and submission of all tax filings, returns, remittances, payments, and installments. Oversee all US taxrelated compliance audits conducted by US taxing authorities.
  • Oversee accounting for income taxes for the US group of companies.
  • Oversee US taxrelated components of business development projects.
  • Develop, implement, and review the business plan within the context of the Taxation Group business plan (including mission, vision, values, strategic positioning, operational plan, and resource plan).
  • Ensure EPCOR’s taxation standards are developed, revised, and implemented in a timely, proper, and consistent manner across the company.
  • Plan and identify necessary budget requirements and provide exceptional processes to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.

Analyze and identify issues impacting operational performance and establish initiatives for continuous improvement to help ensure that no material interest or penalties are incurred due to late or incorrect tax filings, returns, remittances, payments, or installments. Ensure prudent taxation strategies are implemented to minimize taxes while remaining compliant with relevant tax law and jurisprudence. 

 

 

What’s required to be successful:

 

  • Professional Accounting Designation
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (Business, Finance etc.)
  • Professional Accounting Designation
  • Completion of a formal US Tax-related course (Master of Taxation, or similar)
  • 10+ years of tax-related experience which includes;
  • 10+ years of experience preparing and reviewing large-company, US corporate income tax returns and other compliance filings.
  • 5+ years of managing tax professionals.
  • 4+ years of leading US tax-related business development activities and overseeing tax structuring for large companies.
  • Experience in the regulated utility industry (including working knowledge of regulatory accounting principles) and/or a large corporate setting would be a significant asset.
  • Experience with Canadian Corporate income tax returns, filings and business development activities would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory accounting principles would be an asset.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Solid time management and organization skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel required.
  • Excellent leadership skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to successfully apply the relevant knowledge to ensure full compliance with accounting for income tax rules under IFRS and US GAAP.
  • Experience with OneSource income tax compliance and income tax provision software would be a significant asset.
